UCLan Graduate Entry Dentistry: UCLan Dentistry Graduate Entry Requirements – UCAT/GAMSAT Cut Off, Acceptance Rate & Fees for International Students

The University of Lancashire (formerly UCLan) School of Dentistry in Preston runs one of the most distinctive routes into the profession: a four-year graduate-entry Bachelor of Dental Surgery (BDS, A202) for graduates who already hold a 2:1 in a biomedical discipline. There is no school-leaver route — this is a graduate-only dental school.

UCLan has one standout advantage: it is the only dedicated graduate-entry dentistry course in the UK open to international as well as UK applicants. Entry centres on your biomedical degree, A-levels, GCSEs, the UCAT, a Verification of Prior Learning form, and an MMI with group tasks.

UCATScore expertise — UCLan Graduate Entry Dentistry Prepared by the UCATScore admissions team — graduate-entry dentistry specialists — and verified against University of Lancashire (UCLan), Preston’s official guidance for 2027 entry.

UCLan Graduate Entry Dentistry: How UCLan Selects Graduate Entry Dentistry Applicants

UCLan uses objective criteria rather than a personal statement: your academic profile (2:1 biomedical degree + A-levels + GCSEs), your UCAT score (used to rank for interview), an academic reference, and a mandatory Verification of Prior Learning form. The personal statement and work experience are not used to score or select.

The Verification of Prior Learning form is genuinely important — it evidences that your prior qualifications covered the relevant biomedical subjects, enabling direct entry into Year 2-level content. This is what makes the four-year acceleration possible.

Final selection is via Multiple Mini Interviews plus group tasks, assessing communication, professionalism and ethics. With around 29 places and international eligibility, competition is strong.

UCLan Graduate Entry Dentistry: UCLan Graduate Dentistry Degree & Academic Requirements

UCLan checks A-levels alongside your degree — a genuine requirement:

  • Three A-levels at grade C or above
  • At least two must be from Biology, Physics, Chemistry or Mathematics
  • General Studies is not counted towards A-level entry
  • BTEC Extended Diplomas are not accepted

UCLan also checks GCSEs:

  • GCSE English Language at grade B/6 or above
  • GCSE Mathematics at grade B/6 or above
  • These are checked alongside your degree and A-levels

UCATScore admissions-test strategy UCLan’s selection is refreshingly objective: your degree, A-levels, GCSEs, UCAT and Verification of Prior Learning form do the work — the personal statement isn’t scored at all. So put your energy into the UCAT (it ranks you for interview) and into completing the Verification of Prior Learning form carefully, since it evidences your eligibility for direct Year 2 entry. And note UCLan is the only dedicated graduate-entry dentistry course open to international applicants.

UCLan Graduate Entry Dentistry: UCLan Work Experience & Manual Dexterity

Work experience isn’t scored at UCLan, but dental insight still helps.

  • UCLan does not use work experience to score or select
  • However, genuine knowledge of dentistry is expected at the MMI
  • Manual dexterity, communication and ethics are assessed at interview
  • Reflection on any dental exposure strengthens your interview answers

UCLan Graduate Entry Dentistry: UCLan Interview Format

UCLan uses MMIs plus group tasks.

  • Multiple Mini Interviews (MMI) plus group tasks
  • Assesses communication, professionalism and ethics
  • May include a manual-dexterity element — practise fine-motor tasks
  • Held online or at the Preston campus (confirmed closer to the cycle)
