Anglia Ruskin University Medicine Entry Requirements: Anglia Ruskin Medicine Acceptance Rate & Admissions Statistics

Medicine at Anglia Ruskin University (ARU) is a 5-year MBChB (UCAS A100) based at the School of Medicine in Chelmsford, with placements running through all five years. Two things catch applicants out: ARU requires Home fee status at the point of application (the course is UK-only for eligibility), and ARU uses the UCAT to shortlist but then makes offers solely on MMI ranking.

This UCATScore guide confirms the exact grades and subjects ARU accepts (including resits, graduates and Access routes), explains the published UCAT thresholds and regional/WAMS adjustments, and interprets ‘acceptance rate’ using ARU’s official competition ratios — all verified for 2026/2027 entry.

Anglia Ruskin University Medicine Entry Requirements: How ARU Selects Medicine Applicants

ARU’s process has a distinctive shape: applicants who meet the academic requirements are ranked by UCAT score to decide interview invitations (with SJT Band 4 not invited), and then the offer is based solely on MMI ranking — once you reach interview, your UCAT and grades no longer decide the offer.

ARU also applies regional and widening-access uplifts to UCAT scores (below), which can significantly change who is shortlisted. This makes ARU a school where knowing your category-specific threshold matters more than a single national number.

Because ARU is UK-only (Home fee status required at application), overseas-fee applicants should treat this MBChB as unavailable to them.

Anglia Ruskin University Medicine Entry Requirements: Graduate Applicants & Internal Transfer

ARU has no Graduate Entry Medicine programme — graduates start in Year 1 and complete all five years. You need a minimum 2:1 honours degree awarded within the last five years (transcripts required), must meet the GCSE minimum, and must sit the UCAT (GAMSAT is not accepted). ARU lists specific accepted degree subjects (biomedical sciences, physiology, pharmacy, optometry, veterinary science/medicine and others), and does not accept Nursing or Paramedic Science degrees. Applicants with a previous level 4/5/6 attempt resulting in academic failure are not considered.

ARU also runs an internal transfer process into Year 1 for first-year students on BSc Medical Science, BSc Biomedical Science or MOptom Optometry (limited availability): 75% average with no module below 65%, a current UCAT score, and the standard GCSE profile. A-levels are not checked for internal transfer (GCSEs are).

Anglia Ruskin University Medicine Entry Requirements: Widening Access (WAMS), Regional Schemes & Guaranteed Interviews

ARU’s Widening Access to Medicine Scheme (WAMS) can change what a realistic application looks like: eligible applicants may receive a reduced ABB A-level offer, a 5% UCAT uplift, and, for some, a guaranteed interview route. Graduate, internal-transfer and Access applicants are not eligible for WAMS.

ARU also applies regional UCAT uplifts — East of England residents 2.5%, Essex residents 5% — with the East of England defined as Essex, Suffolk, Cambridgeshire, Norfolk, Bedfordshire, Hertfordshire and the North East London boroughs.

Separately, a Guaranteed Interview Scheme (regardless of UCAT score, provided academic requirements and SJT Band 1–3 are met) applies to applicants meeting listed criteria such as receipt of free school meals, being in care, or completing named ARU programmes.

Anglia Ruskin University Medicine Entry Requirements: How Anglia Ruskin (ARU) Uses the UCAT

ARU requires the UCAT and ranks applicants by score (SJT Band 4 not invited). ARU says it has no fixed cut-off that applies every year, but it publishes category-specific 2026 cut-offs (from a non-graduate main cut-off down to lower thresholds for regional, WAMS and graduate categories), and applies the regional/WAMS uplifts above.

We break down every published 2026 threshold, how the uplifts stack, and how the /2700 scale changes things on our dedicated Anglia Ruskin UCAT cut-off page — the natural companion to this one.

Full detail: the Anglia Ruskin (ARU) UCAT cut-off This page covers how the UCAT fits into Anglia Ruskin (ARU)’s overall requirements. Anglia Ruskin University Medicine Entry Requirements: Anglia Ruskin (ARU) Medicine Interview Format

ARU uses in-person Multiple Mini Interviews (MMIs) at the School of Medicine. For 2026 entry: six stations, each seven minutes, with one minute reading time outside each station. Stations cover communication/empathy, teamwork/leadership, motivation, critical thinking, ethical reasoning and integrity. Each station is marked across three domains (quality of answer, skills/qualities, communication), each out of five — 15 per station, 90 total.

Offers are made solely on MMI ranking. For 2026 entry, interviews were scheduled 4–9 December 2025 and 7–14 January 2026, with decisions via UCAS Hub by the end of March 2026. ARU does not accept deferrals, and unsuccessful interviewees cannot reapply in the same cycle (including Clearing).

Anglia Ruskin University Medicine Entry Requirements: ARU Medicine Acceptance Rate & Competition

ARU’s course listing publishes competition ratios that are useful for setting realistic expectations:

MeasureRatioRough interpretation
Home applicants per interview2About 1 interview per 2 eligible applicants
Home applicants per place10About 1 place per 10 applicants (~10% entrant rate)

A large proportion of eligible applicants may reach interview, but the final offer depends on MMI ranking — not UCAT — once you’re interviewed. Places are limited, and ARU uses a rigorous shortlisting process before interview.

Anglia Ruskin University Medicine Entry Requirements: Anglia Ruskin (ARU) Medicine for International Students

Because ARU’s MBChB requires Home fee status at application, it is effectively UK-only. You could be an international student by nationality but still be eligible if you qualify for Home fee status (e.g. some applicants with settled/pre-settled status). If you would be classed as an Overseas fee applicant, assume you are not eligible for this route. Where English language evidence is required, ARU asks for IELTS 7.5 overall with at least 7.0 in each component.

Anglia Ruskin University Medicine Entry Requirements: Anglia Ruskin (ARU) Medicine Fees & Funding

ARU publishes the 2026/27 UK tuition fee as £9,790 per year. Budget for additional costs (placement travel, DBS check, stethoscope and lab coat). The 5-year course is self-funded in the early years, with Year 5 currently covered by an NHS bursary for eligible Student Finance England students (funding differs by UK nation).

Anglia Ruskin University Medicine Entry Requirements: Anglia Ruskin (ARU) Medicine Entry Requirements — FAQs

What do you need to get into Anglia Ruskin medical school?

Home fee status at application; commonly AAA at A-level (with specific subject rules) plus 5 GCSEs at 9–6 including English Language, Maths and two sciences; the UCAT (SJT Band 4 not invited); and a strong MMI, since ARU makes offers based solely on MMI ranking.

Is Anglia Ruskin University good for Medicine?

ARU offers early and continuous clinical exposure (placements across all five years), modern facilities at its Chelmsford School of Medicine, and a clear, transparent selection model (UCAT to shortlist, then offers on MMI ranking). It expects applicants to be familiar with the NHS and GMC requirements of medical students.

What is the UCAT score for Anglia Ruskin?

ARU has no single fixed cut-off, but it publishes category-based 2026 cut-offs (a non-graduate main cut-off, with lower thresholds for East of England, Essex, WAMS and graduate categories) and applies regional/WAMS uplifts. See our Anglia Ruskin UCAT cut-off page for the full breakdown on the current /2700 scale.

Which university has the lowest entry requirements for medicine in the UK?

There’s no reliable ‘lowest’, because requirements vary by route (standard vs gateway/foundation vs graduate) and contextual schemes change offers. Compare official requirements using the Medical Schools Council database, then verify on each university’s website for the current cycle.

Can international students apply to ARU Medicine?

Only if they hold Home fee status at the point of application. Overseas-fee applicants should treat this MBChB as unavailable, as ARU’s published rule requires Home fee status.
